The Deveron Dental Centre is committed to promoting good oral health. Our practice is a base for the Childsmile team, which is a national programme designed to improve children’s oral health.
We recommend that you register your child at the practice as soon as they are born, to ensure we can provide you, and them, with preventative dental care from birth. It also helps to get your child used to the sights, sounds and smells of a dental surgery.
Our dental nurses, Kirsty, Natalie, Michelle, Nicole and Kelly run the Childsmile scheme within our practice. They promotes good oral health to our patients, from birth to 6 years, particularly amongst people living in high priority areas. Parents of new born children who are assessed to be at risk of developing tooth decay are referred to the programme by their Health Visitor. These families are given advice as well as free toothbrushes, toothpaste and drinking cups.
After attending the dentist for an examination, we will arrange for your child to see one of the Childsmile nurses. They will show both yourself and your child how to brush their teeth correctly and she will discuss the importance of a good diet and toothbrushing with them.
We have found the Childsmile programme to be extremely effective at reducing levels of tooth decay.
Older children are provided with additional preventive care such as fluoride varnish and fissure sealants.
