- Use electric toothbrush with red head (use this head until 6 years old) but make sure to keep out of reach (can separate brush head from the handle – choking hazard)
- Brush for 2 mins, 2 x daily, morning and night
- Brush 30 mins after eating to allow the saliva time to recover
- No snacks or drinks to be given after brushing – gives toothpaste time to work
- Spit don’t rinse – toothpaste will soak in to strengthen the teeth
- Use a timer – electric toothbrush has a built in timer or use sand timer
- Divide mouth in to 4 sections. Electric toothbrush buzzes every 30s when its time to move on
- Brush for the child. Not coordinated enough to brush on their own. Brush from behind.
- Use adult toothpaste (at least 1450ppm) to get child used to the taste
- We recommend the whole family use Colgate Total Toothpaste
- Use a pea sized amount of toothpaste
- Keep toothpaste out of reach so kids can’t eat toothpaste (fluorosis/white marks will form on the teeth)
